NORAC - boom height control system
With wider boom widths becoming more popular, boom height control has become more focused. The tendency in the past to make life easier was to run the boom perhaps a little higher than best practise in order to avoid the operator constantly having to adjust the boom manually.
From about 2007, many customers had the Bateman /Norac boom control system retro-fitted, and those that have since changed their machines for new have had the system factory fitted, which speaks volumes for the system. So consequently we have become confident in recommending the system which works exceptionally well on the Bateman V.G. boom, mainly due to the unique way the boom operates in its standard form.
The Bateman/Norac boom control system uses ultrasonic sensors mounted on the left, right and centre boom sections, to automatically maintain a pre-set height of the entire boom above the ground or crop. Therefore on the Bateman V.G. boom the system is controlling the height by adjustment of the tilt ram, the incline rams left and right and the pantograph boom lift rams.
With the option of the negative camber/incline system, the boom is allowed to travel below the horizontal in order to further maintain the pre-set height over the crop/ground.
The Norac system can be fitted as a "stand-alone" system with its own Virtual Terminal in the form of the Pulse or Compass display, or cab clutter can be reduced when control is integrated into either the Ag-Leader InCommand displays or older VERSA and Integra control box where they are the primary controllers. Whichever control is fitted the control box displays the height (inches or cm) that the nozzle tips are from the ground, indicates if it is in Manual or Automatic mode, and communicates hydraulic valve activity. It can therefore be manually overridden at any time, and height adjustment can be made “on the move”.
The system can be fitted to the Bateman standard Contour boom if required, and it will then control the boom height and tilt.
The Norac UC5 is ISOBUS compatible, so it can be controlled by other compatible systems, for example the Topcon X30 system
